ALABAMA - Alabama House committee approves abortion ban

The Alabama House of Representatives has passed a bill that makes it a crime for a doctor to perform an abortion. The bill passed in the Alabama House of Representatives Tuesday, April 30th, 74 to 3. The “Human Life Protection Act,” or HB314 would make performing an abortion a Class A Felony, punishable by 20 to 99 years in prison. It would also make attempting to perform an abortion a Class C felony. HB314 does not include any exceptions for instances of rape or incest. Alabama is the only state with a near-total abortion ban bill pending or already on the books.
